Addressing the purported incident said to have taken place in one of the offices within its Microbiology department, the University's Public Relations Officer, Dr. Sam Kpenu, clarified that it is a case of misrepresentation. He emphasized that the University's Microbiology department is located on an upper floor, contrary to what is depicted in the video. Dr. Kpenu pointed out that the video was released by Rivers State University TV (RSUTV), indicating that it did not originate from the University of Port Harcourt. The University affirmed that the video is misleading and untrue, reiterating that such an occurrence did not transpire within its premises.

  During a guided tour of the Ijen volcano park in East Java, Indonesia, a tragic incident occurred when a 31-year-old Chinese tourist, Huang Lihong, lost her footing while taking photos near the crater's edge and fell 250 feet to her death. Lihong and her husband had ascended the volcano to witness its renowned "blue fire" phenomenon at sunrise. Despite being cautioned by their guide about the hazards, Lihong ventured too close to the edge, inadvertently tripped on her clothing, and plunged into the crater. A photograph captured moments before the accident showed Lihong posing against a backdrop of sulfuric gas clouds. Rescuers spent approximately two hours recovering her body from the volcano. Authorities later determined her death to be accidental. Plans were made to transport her remains to Bali before repatriating them to China.
